silhouette3.JPG From the desk of Jane Galt:

There is a rising tide of ugly prejudice in this nation. We were warned. . . we saw the signs. . . but we did not heed. Now it is becoming clear that vegetarians face the oppression and violence that have plagued so many minority groups in the Land of the White Male Carnivore.

First they kill us for food.

Now Andrew Olmsted brings us another tale of horrifying anti-vegetarian prejudice.

When will the madness end, my brothers? We must band together now and take a stand against the rage of the opressor before we find it is too late. . .

Remember, Jane, Hitler was a vegetarian, too.

Oops, sorry, I guess I just Godwined your comments section.

So what are you going to do about it, Jane? You can't eat us . . .

Mmm, pork is goood, bacon is goood...I got my baby back ribs...(and to think that I am Jewish?) ;-)

I leave the vegetarian pizza for the vegetarians - since this would be the only choice for them, it seems like the polite thing to do. Our simple consideration for other people is being taken as prejudice!

Just remember the movie "2001 A Space Oddysey". The vegetarian proto-humans were living a miserable existence until the big Hershey bar clued them in to the joys of eating meat. A quick edit and humans are flying in Pan-Am spaceplanes and flying to Jupiter in a talking spaceship.

Living like a monkey or flying to Jupiter...the choice is yours.

Hitler had gastro-intestinal problems which made him avoid meat to some degree but he was not a vegetarian. It's never been clear to me what it would mean if he had been a vegetarian either.

Nope, actually Hitler had specific praise to offer on vegetarianism. It went hand in hand with his animal rights stance. If he were alive today he'd be a PETA member for sure.

Hitler was also against smoking. . . does that mean we should all light up? ;-)

Posted by: Rand Simberg on January 20, 2003 7:38 PM

Yes, the song I linked to points that out. It's actually a pretty funny song, especially if performed in the manner of Conway Twitty.

He was indeed a militant anti-smoker. Better get off the wagon an start apuffin', quick, Jane.

Heyyyy, this could open up a whole new way of evaluating Life Decisions--WWHD?

(What would Hitler do?)

It has been my opinion that vegans who advocate bring it upon themselves. They are to busy trying to convince society and those within their subculture of their rightousness, that they do not bother to think if they are right in what they state. A person who is regularly insulted and condemned for their beliefs will tend to resort towards violence (fight or flight response); rather than to conform to those who are verbally abusing them. As for the Hitler comments: HELLO!!!! he was a dictator, who was anti-personal rights to begin with. Any person who tries to restrict the right of free choice towards any person is a selfish fundementalist. It is your choice to smoke or eat meat if you want to. This right to free choice is a basic human priveledge. If I were walking down the street, minding my own business and drinking a carton of chocolate milk, and a vegan got into my face and started screaming at me about how evil I was to practice my freedom of choice via my diet; he/she would be lucky to get away with just charges of verbal assalt. Others wouldn't even bother with the police and just deck the a-hole.
P.S. Don't try to tell me this doesn't happen, because lies don't help anybody.
