On the other hand, I would still rather be in good ol' NYC than in the armpit of the world known as LA.

Their fifth area of statistical leadership is outmigration. This has been true for decades.
30 below zero with a 20 mph wind makes you long for a chance to get mugged in LA. ND is worse than MN because there are almost no trees there to break the wind.
My niece from Fargo (the one whose grandfather lost all his fingers falling asleep on the way home from a new years party) doesn't know what to think of her uncle, but I was able to get a laugh out of her with those stats. She now lives in balmy Wisconsin.
