Mazel Tov! And when can we expect grandchildren?

Posted by: Jay Solo on May 19, 2003 6:04 PM

Woohoo! Congratulations! That's always great news, especially given the "highly desireable" part.

Posted by: Katherine on May 19, 2003 6:09 PM

That's really great news! Congratulations.

Your boss is a lucky person to have such a smart employee!

Posted by: Crank on May 19, 2003 6:32 PM

Congratulations. We can only hope that the job is congenial to blogging and involves some influence over public policy.

Posted by: Dr. Manhattan on May 19, 2003 6:56 PM

Congratulations!
Is it connected to last week's meeting?

Posted by: Tom on May 19, 2003 7:06 PM

Jane:

First, congrats!

Second, how long were you, umm, an "enhanced leisure citizen"?

Third, how'd you find the job? Contacts? Through the blog?

Fourth, what's the function? Marketing, financial analyst?

(Just trying to get a sense of what flickering pulse there is out there in the labor market. Feel free to ignore questions if too rude/intrusive.)

Posted by: Jane Galt on May 19, 2003 7:13 PM

It's a media job, I found it through a contact which actually came indirectly through this blog, and I've been freelancing since October, though I've really been looking for a job like this since I decided to pursue media in July. So almost a year. The job market is still tough, and personal contacts are still the best way to go. I won't reveal details 'til I've discussed the blog policy with my employer, but I'm thrilled -- the job's exactly what I've been looking for.

Posted by: Tom on May 19, 2003 7:21 PM

Cheers, Jane. Glad to here your work on the blog had a positive NPV.

"The job market is still tough, and personal contacts are still the best way to go."

The FT today had an article saying that 40% of graduating Wharton MBAs had no firm offer. We ain't partying like it's 1999.

Didn't you say ages ago that you were joining the foreign service and would stop blogging about some things because of that?

Posted by: Jessica on May 19, 2003 8:08 PM

*dancing, singing, throwing rose petals*

Posted by: Mike Brennan on May 19, 2003 8:08 PM

What happened to the Foreign Service? Do I have to discard my vision of you in striped pants and cutaway telling de Villepin that he has only 24 hours to get out of Fashoda? Mike Brennan

Congratulations on the new job! Your new employer is very fortunate fellow. Good luck!

Posted by: Phil on May 19, 2003 8:41 PM

Congratulations!!!!

But enough about you.

What about us?

When do we find out how much of a crimp this puts into your blogging?

Posted by: Will Allen on May 19, 2003 9:14 PM

Now that a running dog capitalist wrecker such as yourself has enhanced the speed by which you exploit the oppressed, can they at least expect a reduction in the exploitative prices they suffer at your hands via this site? Wait a sec,........never mind......

Posted by: Chris Pastel on May 19, 2003 9:37 PM

Way to go! Selfishly I hope you can still blog and educate & entertain us! (I love your cooking lessons!)

Posted by: Aaron Haspel on May 19, 2003 9:38 PM

Congratulations. Employment is becoming a disturbing trend among us New York bloggers.

Posted by: Andrew Olmsted on May 19, 2003 9:38 PM

Congratulations, Jane, and best of luck. Here's hoping the new job doesn't cut into your blogging.

Posted by: Kevin Drum on May 19, 2003 9:55 PM

Congratulations. I hope it's everything you hope it will be!

Posted by: Crank on May 19, 2003 10:26 PM

Aaron, some of us NYC bloggers are too employed.

Posted by: Brad DeLong on May 19, 2003 10:28 PM

Congratulations! May it prove to be highly desirable in all aspects, and to be even more desirable in execution than in anticipation...

Frame your first paycheck - after you hug and kiss it.

Posted by: fub on May 19, 2003 10:45 PM

Congratulations!

May the capitalist oppressor who now exploits your labor under objective conditions of um, anyhow may they get rich and cut you lots of raises, bonuses and stock options, properly expensed of course.

Posted by: PJ/Maryland on May 19, 2003 10:51 PM

Meg, congrats. I hope you're still as enthusiastic after you've settled in.

This is a _content_ job, right? So you'll have assistants to get the spelling right...

Posted by: RON on May 20, 2003 12:36 AM

Congradulations. You beat out the graduating seniors by a hair. Although possible, you will never get to see the retired presidents on your first paycheck. That is the effect of reconstruction. Maybe we will join the club, soon.

Posted by: yak on May 20, 2003 1:38 AM

Congrats! I hope this doesn't mean a future lack of posts on your part.

I'm selfish that way.

Posted by: David Perron on May 20, 2003 5:02 AM

Congrats, and welcome to the ranks of the employedsuper-rich!

Posted by: Dave on May 20, 2003 6:09 AM

Yay, Jane!!!!!! *does the Snoopy dance*

Michael Ubaldi --

Congrats, Megan. I hope you still have time to blog..

I'll bet Prof. DeLong is secretly elated that there's another high income Republican to tax.

Posted by: Dr. Manhattan on May 20, 2003 10:42 AM

I think she should make a copy of her check and frame that while cashing the real thing.

Posted by: achilles on May 20, 2003 11:02 AM

Congratulations Jane, hope the new job goes well.

And Patrick, its always nice to see that you are still oozing class as always.

Posted by: David Thomson on May 20, 2003 11:04 AM

I hope that Jane Galt has been appointed dictator of New York. That might be the only way to save the city.

Posted by: Amitava Mazumdar on May 20, 2003 11:12 AM

Man, if you remained a conservative while being unemployed and without health insurance, I dread what you'll become when you actually have a paycheck coming in. ;)

Posted by: Michael Ubaldi on May 20, 2003 12:03 PM

I recommend she CASH her first paycheck.

A xerox, xerox! I thought that was tacit.

There's always one, isn't there...;-)

Posted by: Javier on May 20, 2003 1:54 PM

What happened to the Foreign Service job?

Posted by: cas on May 20, 2003 1:56 PM

good luck jane,
may grace be ever with you.

Posted by: Patrick Belton on May 20, 2003 2:12 PM

Congratulations, Jane! All best wishes in your new position.

Posted by: anony-mouse on May 20, 2003 10:25 PM

Cheers and good luck to ya, Jane! And if by some chance you happen to know anyone hiring electrical engineers in the Denver, Colorado area...haha, no really, just keep them wonderful blog posts coming. Not many people have such a gift for explaining economics/accounting scenarios in comprehensible terms.

Posted by: David R Beatty on May 21, 2003 8:32 AM

Congratulations, and welcome back to being an active "capitalist oppressor"! ;-)

Posted by: Patrick R. Sullivan on May 21, 2003 11:09 AM

" And Patrick, its always nice to see that you are still oozing class as always."

And that achilles is still a humorless fool.
