Virtue or vice?

For anyone who's ever been stonkered by those "virtue" funds which promise to invest only in environmentally, religiously, or politically correct stocks (at the cost of distinctly mediocre returns), there's now a fund just for you.

Cool, I can just think of the possibilities - how about a long short market neutral vice-virtue strategy.

As a knee-jerk liberal...I LOVE IT!!!! Look, liberalism is all well and good, but I want money.

Actually, it's kind of like hedging your bets. I bet against the teams I wanted to win the playoffs. That way, when the Cubs and Sox lost, I made some bank. Same is true here. I want environmentally friendly fuel cells and no pushing cigarettes on children. But if I can't have that, then at least pay me.

The Vice Fund, symbol VICEX, hasn't done quite as well as an S&P500 index fund.

"Stonkered"? You've definitely enriched my vocabulary with that one. Or at least, you will once you tell me what it means. :-)

I was wondering if it was a parody site, but I guess Fred laid that to rest. However, I would wonder if tobacco and liquor were really wise investments - great profit margins, but appalling exposure to lawsuits. Gambling might have the same problem. Or can we somehow trick a majority of Congress into sinking their retirement funds into this fund, and then remind them that if they don't implement real tort reform soon, they'll be broke. 8-)
