Owls in Central Park

Fellow New Yorkers might be interested in visiting the four Long-Eared Owls that have taken up residence in a cluster of Black Pines just West of the South end of the Bow Bridge (map).

Heh. It's like those guys never saw an owl before.

Maybe I could get one of them to come and capture the owl living in my garage here in Columbus,Ohio. Then I could get some sleep without trying to drown out the damn hooting.

About 10 years ago, while on a longish business trip to downtown Minneapolis, I took a break for a run along the Mississippi. About halfway through the run, I heard a sharp bird-cry, looked up, and spotted a bald eagle soaring overhead. When I reported this to assorted office-dwellars in Minneapolis skyscrapers, they all claimed I had to be mistaken; that bald eagles did not habitate such urban settings. A couple of years later I saw a news report that eagles are increasingly seen in urban areas. Anyways, a welcome development.
