maybe. but professionally at least, i spend more time in housing project stairwells that smell of pot and urine than hobnobbing with the glitterati.

I think that's probably Sammner's point: that you're uniquely positioned to observe the juxtaposition of those who can easily "take Manhattan" and those who are living there in squalor.
yeah, comment no. 2 was from me... although that's the first time anyone's called me "The Derek" ... i'll have to start getting people to do it more often!
& really, i just write the stories, and try to let people take away their own moral, if any.
If there are other reporters out there going into paroxysms of envious rage at the sight of marble lobbies and valet-parked Bentleys, i haven't noticed...
