Up in a Whiffenpoof of smoke

Quoth a dejected Tigerhawk :

I've heard "Bulldog! Bulldog! Bow wow wow! Eli Yale" quite enough in recent years.

Funny, I never tire of it. Shall we sing Bright College Years instead?

Funny thing is, "The Game" for us was always Harvard. How can you have a rivalry when only one side cares?

"We are poor little lambs who have lost our way bah, bah..."

Hey. Mindles. "Bow wow" this!

When the men of Eli break through the line, that is the sign we hail.

And, sadly, they're doing it more lately than the Tennessee Volunteers, I think.

Princeton has a rivalry with Yale? Huh, at least Harvard knows Yale has a rivalry with it.

I like the fight song. Better than that German tune.

I have no idea what you're talking about...

Gentleman songsters out on a spree
Doomed from here to paternity...

The Harvard-Yale game is also "the game" for MIT.

Well, isn't that a shame. Now Brown has clinched at least a share of the Ivy title, and a win against cellar-dwellar Columbia gives Brown its first outright Ivy title EVER. I'm looking forward to Chris Berman tomorrow! Go Brown!

It's "When the _sons_ of Eli break through the line..."

The first Tom Lehrer song I ever heard...

Fight fiercely, Harvard,
Fight, fight, fight!
Demonstrate to them our skill.
Albeit they possess the might,
Nonetheless we have the will.
How we shall celebrate our victory,
We shall invite the whole team up for tea
(how jolly!)
Hurl that spheroid down the field, and
Fight, fight, fight!

Fight fiercely, Harvard,
Fight, fight, fight!
Impress them with our prowess, do!
Oh, fellows, do not let the crimson down,
Be of stout heart and true.
Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard’s glorious name,
Won’t it be peachy if we win the game?
(oh, goody!)
Let’s try not to injure them, but
Fight, fight, fight!
And do fight fiercely!
Fight, fight, fight!

How many good examples are there of these sorts of one-sided rivalries (or better yet, real rivalries with some other team getting ignored on the sideline)?. (Williams-Amherst)Middlebury and (UNC-Duke)NC State come immediately to mind, but only because i'm familiar with the schools. Ithaca COllege vs. Cornell is pretty good in terms of the intense fervor on one side and the equally intense apathy on the other (or so my Cornell friends claim!)

For many years, Yale was also Dartmouth's main rival, though that seems to have cooled somewhat of late. This old Eli was there on Saturday and was quite pleased, especially since next weekend could be grim....

Most of the Ivy League rivalries are one sided. The ones I remember are:
Cornell - Penn (Penn doesn't care)
Penn - Princeton (Princeton doesn't care)
Princeton - Yale (Yale doesn't care)
Yale - Harvard (Harvard doesn't care)

There are probably a few more, but I didn't care about Columbia, Brown, or Dartmouth enough to figure it out.

>>Yale - Harvard (Harvard doesn't care)

??

They certainly seemd to care quite as much as Yale did when I was there in the early '90's
