Memo to self

. . . do not blog about the people I kill. It can only get me in trouble.

My favorite quote from this story, back when it was reported by the Washington Post, is: "[Lead council Richard] Daynard said that while the legal theory is ready, the challenge is finding the right set of parents to sign on as plaintiffs for the class-action case. "It's taking us longer than we expected," he said."

So they don't actually have any angry parents or obese children begging for justice. All they have is a legal theory, a plaintiff-friendly state, and a strong desire to sap billions from a juicy target. Arrgh.

Eric:

Umm, I do not think this is the blog post that you think it is.

Jane:

That's why I don't have a blog.

Also, don't write about it in your diary. If the cops suspect you strongly enough to search your house for the murder weapon, they'll probably find that and read it. I can't remember a specific case, but over the years I have heard of more than one person who carefully disposed of the weapon and all other conclusive physical evidence, but left a written confession in their diary.

Putting the diary online as a blog just makes it a little more likely to be noticed.

At least one of those people claimed that they had just been fantasizing in their diary, and just their bad luck, someone else shot the SOB. It turns out lots of people do put fiction in their diaries, whether or not that was true in this case. (Does that make you wonder about certain blogs?) If you have to fantasize about killing specific people in writing, at least take the trouble to think up a unique MO. And don't post it on the web.

Jane,

So how do you brag to strangers about the people you kill?

Definitely an item for an updated version of the Evil Overlord list.
