I thought you got the better of Matt on the unions issue. Of course, it would have been even better if you had mentioned the real damage that unions can do.
You still wiped the floor with him; good job.

Posted by: L'Johnnelle on March 7, 2007 8:43 PMI've pretty much only seen the two blogging heads that you've done (and a little of one other), but I'm becoming a fan of the format and will have to start perusing the archives for more interesting pairings. It's nice to see that some of the more strong opinions people hold, aren't quite as serious as bloggers tend to write them.
Posted by: aaron on March 7, 2007 9:29 PMMy first thought was, for serious, why is Liv Tyler doing a bloggingheads with Matt Yglesias? (Is that a creepy comment?)
Also, in terms of card check I remember one of the bloggingheads mentioned Wall Mart firing all the workers who unionized in Quebec by closing the store. What they didn't mention is that the union said it would help those who were fired... only if they had voted for the union.

Posted by: Jasper on March 8, 2007 12:11 AMYou were delightful as usual. Already a fan of yours, I am rather startled to notice for the first time that you are a gaptoothed woman, as in the immortal Les Blank documentary:

Posted by: Lester Hunt on March 8, 2007 12:30 AMThe real problem with unions, in my opinion, is that the labor laws essentially encourage a single monopoly union per industry. Monopolies are very rarely anything but bad, regardless of whether they are dealing in phone service, steel, or labor. We would be in a much better position if the labor and collective bargaining laws weren't written to favor the formation of single, monolithic unions and allowed for a more open market where multiple labor representative organizations could compete against one another. Union organizations would not like this idea because it would decrease the power of individual unions, though it would probably work more in the best interests of the workers.

Posted by: Lance on March 8, 2007 2:32 PMDoes Matt Yglesias not get the concept of equal time? Megan got in about 1 in every 10th word.
