Razib thinks I look like an elf. Interestingly, so did the medievalist I dated in college. When I protested that I was not short, he snottily informed me that real elves are very tall.
It's not as great as y'all think, though. Just because I'm an elf, doesn't mean I get to date Orlando Bloom.

Short elves, are from the Irish Tuatha da dannan or Sidhe.
I dunno. With a name like "Megan" you should be a short elf, not a tall elf.

I would've thought Viggo Mortensen was more your type anyway.
Posted by: Shelby on March 8, 2007 3:37 PMThere's also the slight matter of the distinct lack of pointed ears...
Posted by: Jay Reding on March 8, 2007 3:49 PMYeah, you've got a bit of that Cate Blanchett thing going. . .
is okay. leasts you ain't orc. is real hard now being orc, yup. But we does what we can.
still got nice teeths though. you elfs ain't having too much pointy ears no more.HA!
Posted by: grrshnahg on March 8, 2007 4:27 PMCheck the handbook. I think you are entitled to one date with Orlando Bloom. You can date Viggo, but you don't get to be immortal anymore.
Posted by: Aaron on March 8, 2007 5:12 PMMegan was an elven queen
who in the havens ne'er was seen
her face was clear
her mind was bright
her writings laced with laptop light
And from afar she blogs away
and all her kin cry lack-a-day
and wish upon Earendel's star
That she dwelled where her kindred are.
Ryan W. - I do hope that was composed as part of some poetry-related drinking game.
Posted by: dedalus275 on March 8, 2007 7:20 PMYeah you do look elven ala Tolkien. Bad news is, I don't think you really get to "date", as such. But if Orlando is the one for you, don't worry, some unbelievable twist of fate will bring you together.
Posted by: Leonard on March 8, 2007 9:13 PMdedalus275 - Stone cold sober. I have no excuse. But on a board where people impersonate orcs and Dr. House and we were comparing Megan to an tolkiensonian elf, is it really such a strech?
Posted by: Ryan W. on March 8, 2007 10:00 PMWell, SOMEone has to say it:
Myyy pprreeccciiioouuussss!
Posted by: anony-mouse on March 8, 2007 11:12 PMhm. how is it that these blogging heads people find out that i'm talking about them when i never link to them? in any case, i believe that elves in tolkien were about 6'4 (the same size as numenoreans).
Posted by: razib on March 9, 2007 1:53 AMOrlando Bloom is not old enough to go on real dates yet. And he has to be home by 8:30 on school nights.
Elf, shmelf. What impressed me was the grace and aplomb with which you dispatched Yglesias to the trollish depths of forensic hell.
Really, someone should advise him not to blow whatever blogosphere credibility he has matching wits with the likes of you...
Cheers from an old-media economics writer...

Here's a thought: For these Bloggingheads.tv excursions, the camera should off-center, so that you're looking just past it (as though talking to an interviewer). IMO it would look a little less awkward, and if left/right angle were pre-arranged, it would look more like the contestants were engaging each other.
Posted by: anony-mouse on March 9, 2007 3:53 PMI can confirm that Megan does not look like an elf in person. (I actually took a couple of the rather nice photos Megan posted quite a while back.) But I can also confirm that neither does Orlando Bloom, whom I saw in the audience at a play this week. He actually looks rather more masculine in person than in any of the roles I've seen him in, which if I were interested in men I think I'd find a good thing. Who wants to date an elf?

those who value grace & elegance.
Posted by: razib on March 9, 2007 6:14 PMIt's the hair. Even without pointy ears, it looks very Arwen... he said, having watched the clip. Before I watched, I was wondering if she looked like an enormous Santa's Elf.
