I've made Atrios's wanker of the day. I'd like to thank my parents, my agent, the director, and all the little people . . . my friend Kate, Mickey Mouse . . . . oh, I should have prepared something, but I never thought I'd win. Thank you all. You hate me. You really hate me.

I'm sure your parents are proud.

Posted by: tomboy on March 10, 2007 1:21 PMThe best bit is that as part of your WotD duties, you get to make mac and cheese for the estimated 2 million Iraqi refugees. Which should take about . . . hmm . . .
Posted by: Dan S. on March 10, 2007 1:50 PMOnly a wanker of the first water would even have a feature like "Wanker of the Day," so I guess Atrios knows of which he speaks.
Posted by: Frogwhistle on March 10, 2007 2:27 PMCongrats! You've made it!
Nothing says you're on the right about an issue like a comment from Dsquared saying you're wrong and a negative posting from Asquared.
Congrats Jane!
Did not read all the comments @Atrios (who could?), but I was incredibly amused to see that they think you are a wanker because they didn't understand a sentence you wrote at about a 5th grade comprehension level. Or, am I missing an incredibly subtle sense of humor?
Reading the comments on Atrios and Deltoid is like reading an unfunny FARK thread.
BTW~ You are more fun than chewing on bricks.
Posted by: Reagan Fan on March 10, 2007 4:55 PMThat comment thread on Deltoid has some of the lowest reading comprehension I've ever witnessed. Of course the post itself sets the bar very low, having totally missed your point. The fact that Atrios pegs you was WotD based on the Deltoid post doesn't reflect very well on him, either.
Do any of these people ever bother to read before they react?
Posted by: Joan on March 10, 2007 5:06 PMCongratulations! It's an impressive feat. Given the wide swath of competitive material Mr. A has to pick from just from his own website, you must be really outstanding to be drawn in from the wings like this. A true Michael Moore arriving in Hollywood, as it were.
Posted by: anony-mouse on March 10, 2007 6:29 PMAs I understand the literal meaning of that word, I don't believe it can accurately be applied to a female. Perhaps they mean Diddler of the Day, or perhaps they are just ignorant.
Posted by: triticale on March 10, 2007 7:21 PMBeing dissed by Atrios is the equivalent of having a petulent 4 year old stick his tongue out at you and shouting "you're full of boogies".
Posted by: Tolbert on March 10, 2007 7:40 PMAtrios is doubtless very important to Atrios. I doubt that any other sapient being cares much about what he writes. ^_~
Posted by: Small Pink Mouse on March 10, 2007 9:41 PMAtrios is the Permanent Eternal Wanker Of Every Day For All of Eternity Even Past The Singularity.

This was my thought as well, and I was searching for some delicate way to put it but I see that Triticale has bulldozed this in :-)
Not to worry, we love you anyway, Megan, and you won't be going blind either.

And what about gay? That used to mean something very nice.
Posted by: william on March 12, 2007 7:44 AMWell, it's an honor to be mentioned in an acceptance speech, I'll say that. I'll also say that being called a Wanker by Atrios is kind of like being called a Faggot by Ann Coulter. It no longer has any kind of bite and is only used to pump up the street-cred of the person being name called and make the user doing the name calling look foolish.
As someone who reads Atrios I think you should be honored to just be mentioned. And, similarly, I am honored to be mentioned in the acceptance speech.
Yancey, since the equipment is different, the technique is different. I believe that the honored title refers to a specific technique.
Posted by: Kevin P. on March 12, 2007 11:13 AMYes. I believe the difference comes down to push vs pull economics.
Posted by: aaron on March 12, 2007 3:48 PMActually, the term is used in a coed fashion in the UK, whence it comes. While it may be used more in a male context, that's more social commentary than actual statistical fact. Women, some women, at least some British women, do 'wank'.
Posted by: John on March 12, 2007 5:30 PMAnd this is why I like Jane's Blog. An economic and etymological discussion of the word Wanker.
Posted by: Kate on March 13, 2007 9:35 AMIn a thousand years, there won't be any men or women. There'll just be wankers.
