Between moving, travel, and some chaos in my work life that those who know me already know about, and the rest of you will discover shortly, I'm kinda swamped.
However, as of next week, I'll be bumming around DC, learning how the other half--the unemployed half*--lives. Then, blogging, emailing, and festivities. And if you're in DC, and want to have a drink or a coffee or something, I'm very open.
* Okay, 4.5%. Or, if you get all grumpy and want to look at labour force participation rates, ca. 40%. Whatever, dude; I'm a lady of leisure now.

What does ca. mean?

So, you'll be living like a Congressman?
Try to steer clear of those Mason boys. Who knows where their free market, libertine ways will mislead you to?
Don't worry, I'm fine. There will be an announcement soon.

It's a two-week intermission between spells working for a British magazine and working as Mitt Romney's policy advisor.
Glad to hear nothings amiss. Is it alright for us to engage in rank speculations as to the nature of the announcement?
Actually, I'm flying out to DC for a wedding this weekend (friend of my girlfriend's). I'll be flying home on the 7th. I'll keep an eye for ya. You can't be that hard to miss. ;)
I'll be getting together with some old and new friends if your invitation is really that open and you're up for meeting some interesting folk. No clue what we'll be doing yet.
Is it too much to hope you've landed a contract to write a book?
If you are in the Adams Morgan area, try
Tryst Coffee House, Bar and Lounge
2459 18th St NW
Washington, DC

I know one of the servers there and it seems to be an OK place to hang around and blog from, especially in the mornings.

Go to National Zoo. Check ahead of time re: when they feed the sea lion and go at one of those times, as they do a little show to get them to work for their fishes. Also, if there is still a timber wolf there, see if you can find him/her and then see if you can beat him/her in a staring contest. I couldn't.
Take that bike of your (you did get one, right) and go for a bike ride up the C&O Canal tow path. It's nice and flat and you can for as long as you like. Take it as far as the Old Anglers Inn (not that far at all) and have a drink on the patio.
(If you're still up for a bike ride the next day, take across the river to Mt. Vernon. It's August in Washington, you're going to sweat one way or another.)
Actually I like the ride across the Key Bridge then down the trail by the GW parkway, past the end of the runway at Reagan, and into Old Town Alexandria (try Misha's Coffee, the BEST!)

For DC: I've been hanging out at Soho Coffee on P St. NW and 22nd. Nice and offbeat...very unlike Starbucks.
Come by and visit me if you want...I'm studying for my econ prelims, but could always use a distraction. Believe me, I am a lot of fun right now;P
To what predator do they feed the sea lions? Wouldn't they need an awful lot of them?
I live in the DC area and would LOVE to meet with you to have lunch or for coffee or just for a walk. Call me (612.618.2023) or email me and let me know when and where would be a convenient place for you to meet!

You mean you really believe those DOL statistics? You must know they don't take into consideration those who have "given up looking"?
Kind of similar to the bogus GDP numbers the Dept. of Commerce pedals. About a month ago Business Week ran an article that proved outsourcing is dramatically skewing economic data, artificially (and spuriously) boosting GDP and productivity rates.
Good blog; I wish I still lived in the DC area; I'd ask you to meet for coffee... I'm not a libertarian by any means (just call me a progressive), but unlike so many libertarians on the internet, you're not doctrinaire about it. And that is good!
