Another Story I Don't Want
Another Story I Don't Want to Hear
Rumors are afoot that Taliban Johnny's father is gay. Cultural conservative leaning types have apparently intimated that the father's moving out to live with another man may have pushed the kid over the edge into militant Islam; more libertarian or lefty types are ignoring the story. But I think this raises an important question: who the hell cares? Cultural conservatives who want to roll back the tide of irresponsibility in our culture are now suddenly turning around and arguing that Johnny had to commit high treason (okay,
maybe not legally, but still) because daddy doesn't like girls? A pre-Christmas OpinionJournal reports "Rob Morse of the San Francisco Chronicle blasts Corkery for taking "attacks on [Walker's] family to a new and disgusting level" [although, if homosexuality is a perfectly valid lifestyle, how does intimating that Dad's gay constitute an attack?]. How about blasting him because he told us something that none of us really cared to know, true or not? But then I'm biting my own tail, so I'll return to my original point: Dad could've dressed up as Annette Funicello to take Johnny to school and the kid would
still be responsible for the decisions he made five or ten years later.
And on the Department of Lefty Idiocy side, here's a quote from the above story attributed to one of the men the father allegedly lived with: "I'm really shocked and upset at the stories and rumors going around. I'm afraid for the young man (John Walker, Frank Lindh's son). Is the country going to try him for treason based on rumors? The facts in this case have not come out." While it is hard to believe that anyone could actually say something this stupid, experience teaches that yes, there is a segment of our population that actually believes that Johnny Walker could be convicted of treason for the sin of having a gay father, rather than because he went to a foreign country and took up arms in support of our avowed enemies.
