The PETA folks warned me that Big Meat would soon be rounding up vegetarians and killing us. But I didn't believe it. . . until now.

Posted by: sassamon on January 9, 2003 08:55 AMProblem is those vegetarians are so skinny. Takes too many to get a decent meal of out them.
Posted by: Bob on January 9, 2003 09:36 AMI'll bet they taste like grass-fed cattle (as opposed to corn-fed.)
Posted by: Klug on January 9, 2003 09:43 AMMmmm.. vegetarians in meat sauce...
Anyway, it can't be as bad as all that, I was subjected to 'holodets' over the holidays, and believe you me, jellified beef isn't as mouth tasting as it sounds. You'd think that boiled beef with fat and more fat and starch, frozen to jelly-like form would taste great, but it's not; not without a couple of liters of vodka in ya anyway.
I think the range from which you took that picture is about as close you want to get to that restaurant until they change the menu, Megan, unless you're a very fast runner. :-) I don't imagine they sell too many of those though. Vegetarians just don't taste the same.....
Posted by: Jonathan on January 9, 2003 02:46 PMI hear that the meat of herbivors tastes much better than the meat of carnivors. (See Prince Caspian CS Lewis).
Posted by: Woodland Critter on January 9, 2003 09:38 PMWe taste like pork, so I hear.
Critter,
Yeah, cows taste great...maybe it works the same for vegetarians. Mmmm...vegetarian bacon...
Posted by: Bill McCabe on January 9, 2003 10:31 PMmarkm,
Funny you should mention Bear meat.
"Prince Caspian" by CS Lewis Chapter 10 approx p. 136 in my edition:
"Bear that has lived too much on other animals is not very nice, but bear that has had plenty of honey and fruit is excellent, and this turned out to be that sort of bear. A truly glorious meal."
It would seem that the good Mr. Lewis would agree that vegitarians would be the tastier of the two.
Posted by: Woodland Critter on January 10, 2003 11:01 PMWoodland: I have no idea as to the diet of that bear (taken on Drummond Island), but bear is the closest thing to a carnivore I've ever tasted.
And I know Cherokees that think dog meat is the best.
Posted by: markm on January 11, 2003 10:39 PMHey, once you abdicate your place in the food chain you're fair game. Well have plenty of PETA members to consume before we get to you, though.
Mmmm, Dominique Swain for lunch and Tracey Bingham for dinner.
Not that I don't think you're, um, edible, but when stalking a herd the features we at Herd Thinners, Inc. (http://www.kevinandkell.com/) look for ar not just infirmity, advanced age, or slowness but also obnoxiousness. The PETA folks have this in abundance but you are decidedly lacking on that front.
