From the desk of Jane Galt:Public service message: how to deal with the breakup of Bennifer
It is hard to write of this awful tragedy while the pain is still so horribly fresh, but I feel that I must extend my thoughts to my fellow man, who I know is suffering with me. You feel, I am sure, as I do, that we have all lost something of incalculable price -- a mother and a father, a beacon of love and goodness in an often cruel world, a spiritual lodestar. If Ben and Jennifer can't make it, what hope is there for any of us, really?
I think a lot of us in these dark first days after the terrible news are afflicted with the feeling that we simply can't go on -- that there is no point in living in a world in which Ben and Jennifer are not living together in connubial bliss forever after. But we must put our nose to the grindstone and our shoulder to the wheel and try to carry on. Even when your sorrow seems to stab so deeply that it feels as if you must end it now or go mad with despair, I implore you to hold onto the memories of those halcyon days when their love enveloped all of us in its happy glow. Even if the land is now dark with anguish, we must take comfort in the fact that we at least live in a world that could hold such a love, deeper than the ocean, wider than the sky. Certainly, the world will never regain for us that quality of hope and magic which it once had, but with the passage of years our pain will ease. No matter how improbable it may seem to you in this terrible time, someday you will laugh again.
