Public service message: how to deal with the breakup of Bennifer

It is hard to write of this awful tragedy while the pain is still so horribly fresh, but I feel that I must extend my thoughts to my fellow man, who I know is suffering with me. You feel, I am sure, as I do, that we have all lost something of incalculable price -- a mother and a father, a beacon of love and goodness in an often cruel world, a spiritual lodestar. If Ben and Jennifer can't make it, what hope is there for any of us, really?

I think a lot of us in these dark first days after the terrible news are afflicted with the feeling that we simply can't go on -- that there is no point in living in a world in which Ben and Jennifer are not living together in connubial bliss forever after. But we must put our nose to the grindstone and our shoulder to the wheel and try to carry on. Even when your sorrow seems to stab so deeply that it feels as if you must end it now or go mad with despair, I implore you to hold onto the memories of those halcyon days when their love enveloped all of us in its happy glow. Even if the land is now dark with anguish, we must take comfort in the fact that we at least live in a world that could hold such a love, deeper than the ocean, wider than the sky. Certainly, the world will never regain for us that quality of hope and magic which it once had, but with the passage of years our pain will ease. No matter how improbable it may seem to you in this terrible time, someday you will laugh again.

First Bustin and now Bennifer.

Is romance truly dead?

Ben and Jennifer who? Are they bloggers?

I really don't see what everyone is so upset about. People get seperated all the time, and just because one couple couldn't make it...

Wait, that was Sarcasm, wasn't it?

Never mind.

The important question is, does Ben Affleck wear a toupee, or doesn't he?

I just found out about this yesterday, and my co-workers thought I was really out of touch.

Of course, they don't know a damned thing about the 9th Circuit's ruling in the recall case, the Palestinian cabinet, or the reviews of Al Franken's book.

doing it right now, nice one...

David: Ben wears hairplugs, never a toupee. Because, in the words of Homer J. Simpson: "You know what they say about a good toupee? It looks like a good toupee."

She's saying what we're all feeling...

I anticipate laughing my head off the next time I go to see one of their movies...

I've quit contributing to my 401(k). There doesn't seem to be much point in planning for the future now.

Also, I may not be able to fill the emptiness in my soul by pouring rivers of Scotch and bourbon down my throat, but mercy! That whiskey surely is tasty.

It could've been worse; they could've married & begat children like themselves!

"someday you will laugh again."

I'm sure I shall.

Pardon me for a bit. My monitor and keyboard need cleaning.

So funny I am giggly. Sorry, "Gigli".

We'll always have Gigli.

I guess this means we won't get to see their remake of Casablanca . . . That's the real tragedy in all this . . .

This has got to be Bush's fault somehow. And the Jewish neo-cons, they had to have a role in it, too.

Well, look at the bright side. Ben and Jennifer's combining into one houshold would have increased income equality! Now, at least, they have two separate households in the top 0.01% of incomes, instead of one in the top 0.001%!

Hmm, which makes me think that it's all Paul Krugman's fault.

Posted by: PJ/Maryland on September 20, 2003 01:33 PM

PJ/Maryland gets my vote for the wittiest, cleverest post on this!

Minimum wage; misleading stats;& Paul Krugman, all in about 50 words.

Wow!

You are all wrong. You are very wrong.

It will never really end.

Never.

What will their breakup do to the spam market for pink cubic zirconia J-Lo engagement ring knock-offs? See, there's an ever-widening economic effect.

Bloody waste of bandwidth!
