'My So-Called Blog'

In the news media, the blog explosion has been portrayed as a transformation of the industry, a thousand minipundits blooming. But the vast majority of bloggers are teens and young adults. Ninety percent of those with blogs are between 13 and 29 years old; a full 51 percent are between 13 and 19, according to Perseus. Many teen blogs are short-lived experiments. But for a significant number, they become a way of life, a daily record of a community's private thoughts -- a kind of invisible high school that floats above the daily life of teenagers.
Not so different, really. Especially if we minipundits take Maureen Dowd as a role model. Posted by Mindles H. Dreck at January 10, 2004 08:27 PM | TrackBack | Technorati inbound links

Yes, 'blog communities' exist and as you say 'for a significant number' they are a way of life. Initially blogs surfaced as probably an online diary or something similar - a place to pen your thoughts and daily happenings. Increasingly though blogs are becoming more like mini discussion boards, with the respective authors discussing current affairs and to an extent their thoughts on happenings in theor life.
Importantly these blog communities are being recognized for what they are - a living, evolving part of the cliched global village.

If you take Maureen Dowd as your role model, I promise to douse myself in gasoline and set myself on fire.

I'm just saying.

29 is a young adult? I thought that ended at 21?

Man. 30 really IS the new 20.

I've recently joined the blogging community. I'm 64, and have taken you and Calpundit as models.

I have to add here that your comment on Calpundit, both yesterday and in earlier comments, are well reasoned and written. I don't always agree with your points, but then, I don't always agree with my own points either.
