Looks like Miss Dowd is suffering from a case of "Bonoboification".

Also, looks like Miss Dowd's ability to analyze the bonobo "scene" is about on a par with her ability to analyze the human "scene". She may have a promising career as an opinion columnist for the Journal of the American Zoological Association - you know, "All the armpit-scratching that's fit to document."

Dowd of course also ignores that for bonobos, sex is used as a tool of social hierarchy. It is used as chimpanzees might use intimidation or violence, to assert hierarchy and place. Bonobos might also use sex to obtain material goods and favors, just as violence might be used in chimpanzees to obtain similar things.
Humans, of course, seem to be able to use both sex and violence to get what we want and to assert our social position. Does that make us better than either form of chimpanzee? No, just more flexible in our strategies for survival.

Sorry, I am not swearing at the monkeys, I use the term in a descriptive sense. Because the way these primates, uh, copulate, strikes the Dowdy One as The Next Big Thing.
