While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring

Thank you indeed. I was extremely flattered to be called a 'kindred soul' by Steven Den Beste once. He was even patient and kind with my son in an email exchange a few years ago. More importantly, we all enjoyed his generous and substantial additions to the discussion over these years.

A degenerative disease sounds ominous. We wish you the very best of health and good spirits, "Oh Captain, my Captain".*

* lest anyone ask, the poem is exclusively an analogy to the virtual presence of U.S.S. Clueless. Besides, what would a Den Beste-related post be without small-text footnotes and asides?

I know I've criticized him harshly in the past, and I don't back away from any of it because I think it was fair.

But I would be severely remiss if I did not admit that my own style of blogging was heavily influenced by him. After all, I did have U.S.S. Clueless on my blogroll before he retired it. I had no idea about the disease. My thoughts and good wishes will be with him.
