A New York state senator has been arrested for punching a cop.

Posted by: denise on January 21, 2005 01:27 PMWell if Ted Kennedy can get away with murder I'm sure some state senator reject can get away with assualt & battery.
Posted by: Dave on January 21, 2005 01:56 PMCome on. Do our politicians have to walk on water? Do we have to ridicule every expression of human nature in them?
The degree of guilt is directly proportional to the senators Party affiliation.

If not, it soon will be.
Posted by: Thorley Winston on January 22, 2005 11:10 AMTo be fair, there are some extenuating circs. Parker had been involved in an accident, and was presumably a bit stressed. The Times says the "traffic agent, unaware of the accident, approached to write a summons...". I'm guessing the traffic agent wasn't very diligent about finding out, either.
That said, the assault charge sounds right. Parker'll probably plead guilty and pay a fine. And hopefully be less quick to attack a "traffic agent" next time.

Maybe the State Senator feared being "Dialloed", (shot 41 times) or "Louimaed" (raped anally with a broken broomstick handle) and figured he'd at least go down swinging. After all, it is New York, and he was unarmed by all accounts.

For me this is sort of like gun control. The "agent" clearly deserved to be punched. Complete ignorance (walking onto the scene of an accident, and not noticing....?)
Maybe this particular agent will actually do thier job next time (presumebly, and agents job is to at least be self aware to notice what's going on around them?)
Voilence begets voilence, sure 'nuff...but somethimes.......
