From Lileks, of course:

Methinks you screwed up your HTML - from the looks of it, you wanted to say this:
Lileks, of course:
Argh, it seems I can't do HTML worth a damn either. Here's the text(it's a quote, but the comments page seems not to like blockquote tags):
I'm very glad I'm not so aslosh with solipsistic hatred that any success in Iraq makes me trot out a cynical riposte so the rest of my buddies on Olympus will nod in wry assent.
Posted by: Alsadius on January 31, 2005 10:56 AMBrave Lileks, taking on the strawmen in his mind one after another so courageousl. Does he never tire?

Have you been over to Democratic Underground? Lileks' "strawman" doesn't seem all that far off after a dip in there. And Kos is as bad as DU. Those are the only two I've been able to get all the way through so far. Unscientifically, I estimate 1 "Kudos to the Iraqi people for taking a step, however small" comment to 8-10 "Of course you KNOW Bush - or more likely Cheney or Rove - had these results in his pocket a week ago. And almost 50 people dead doesn't sound like 'minimal violence' to ME. And people only voted because Allawi said he'd cut off their rations if they didn't. And by the way, did you hear Bush didn't want to have elections but al-Sistani forced his hand?" comments.

It's a classic of the genre.

No, I haven't. I avoid it about as avidly (and for the same reasons) as I do FR and the comments section of LGF. My problem with the occasionally entertaining Mr. Lileks is his inability or refusal to differentiate between marginalized fringe figures and anyone else who disagrees with him. He's to competent a writer to not realize what he's doing.
As an opponent of the invasion who didn't vote for Bush, I'm very glad this first phase of the election went as well as it did. I hope the rest of the election process goes just as well.
Hear hear (Michael Farris)!
No matter which side you're on, the sooner Iraq is capable of standing alone (and with al-Zarqawi waging furious war, or whatever his phrase was, against democracy and everybody who voted, I'd say "standing alone" includes "fending off the wolf at the door"), the better off the US is.

Yes (why do I even need to say this?), yes, good for the Iraqis.
Just wondering when you plan to invade Detroit to save it, too?
