Would whoever bought the six-quart Kitchenaid mixer email me and tell me if it's as beautiful to use as it is to look at?

My husband makes fun of me because I get the Windex out and polish it to a deep shine - like some guys wax their cars.

I don't have a 6 quart (I don't remember what size I have, it was a gift a number of years ago and is white) but I do love my Kitchen Aid mixer. My wife resisted because it was so big. We actually don't use it that often, but when we do, it's a joy.
The only problem we've had is with the switch. It's surprisingly flimsy compared to the rest of the machine. For a while, it was refusing to turn off, so I opened up the mixer and checked it out. Our switch mechanism was not broken, it was just a little loose. Looking it over, I was not impressed with that one part. The frame, motor, bowl, mixers, etc... are all very solid and durable. But the switch mechanism is not so solid.

Posted by: Earnest Iconoclast on November 29, 2005 10:01 AMDon't have or want the 6-quart with the lever to lift the motor head. I have the 5.5-quart, with the tilt head. Since the tilt head lifts the beater enough to clear the bowl, and the lift-head (6-qt) doesn't, that sold me right there. It does a wonderful job on a 5 lb batch of bread; if that ain't big enough for you, you may have issues...
But, beware. There are a couple versions of the tilt head. Double check at Kitchenaid for current numbers, but IIRC there are 250 and 375 watt motors available. Get the 375, you'll be glad you did.
Having said that, my only regret is I haven't gotten the attachments I want yet.
